Mike Tyson's one-man show at Fox poignant, unpolished

Mike Tyson's one man show at the Fox Theatre on Saturday night was rambling and unpolished, marked Discount Alexander bags by occasional moments of poignancy.
The Hermes Birkin Bag 35 Light Pink Silver Spike Lee-directed show, part of a national theater tour, is dubbed Mike Tyson Undisputed Truth, and if it wasn't always the truth per se, it was at least Tyson's version of things. The show was messy, humorous and sometimes touching, tracing Tyson's story from the gutter to heavyweight champ, with plenty of attention given to his trials and tribulations outside the ring. Like Mike, the show had its own ups and downs, but if nothing else it was pure Tyson.
Tyson, who started the Hermes Birkin Tote Bag Black Silver 25CM show sitting on a stool as Frank Sinatra's "Nature Boy" played, often seemed shaky with the material, even though the production is well into its run. He tripped over his words, was often out of breath and was constantly dabbing sweat from his forehead. He came off as unrehearsed, especially early on, but he improved as he settled into the groove of the 1-hour, 45-minute performance. Tyson has a charismatic presence and an admittedly softer image now than in his '80s and '90s heyday. But he's still settling into the rhythms of the stage, and his ad-libs chloe pas cher came off as forced and his interactions with the crowd were too scripted.
Aided by a large video screen that acted as a slide show, Tyson started at the beginning of his story, with his birth in 1966. A picture of his mother allowed him to reflect on her life, and was one of the show's most heartfelt moments, as he speculated on her mood the day the photograph was taken. The show was broken into three acts, and each act closed with the death Longchamp outlet of a female he was close to in his life - his mother, then his sister, and finally his daughter.
Other women in his life were given harsher treatment, including his first wife Robin Givens (he called her "Robbin' Robin" and played Kanye West's "Gold Digger" when she came up) and Desiree Washington, the former Miss Black Rhode Island contestant he was convicted of raping in 1992. ("I did not rape Desiree Washington and that's what I have to say about that," he said, after calling her credibility into question.) But he saved the most vitriol fro Don King, rattling off his unflattering impression of the promoter followed by a profane dismissalevery time he brought up his name.
Tyson didn't always let himself off the hook for his mistakes and failures, and he detailed his descent into cocaine abuse as well as the incident where he gnawed of part of Evander Holyfield's Hermes Birkin Bag White Silver ear ("what the <bleep> was I thinking?" he asked). He didn't attempt to soften or sugarcoat his story, but offered his perspective through this prism of entertainment. (The show was scripted by his wife, Kiki.)
To Tyson's credit, the show is a difficult undertaking, and especially for not having been trained in the theater arts, he held his own. But some of the strongest moments came in the quiet moments of the show, when his words were given time to breathe, and there weren't enough of those times as the show moved along.
Tommy Hearns was in the audience at the spottily attended show, and at one point Tyson acknowledged him and had him take a bow. Tyson closed the evening saying he hoped fans came away with a better understanding of him, and even through the cloudiness of the show, you came away with a clearer sense of the man behind the face tattoo. Tyson is a troubled man, a fascinating figure and a questionable entertainer. This tour, it seems, is just another chapter in the ever-evolving Tyson story.
